Living a Detoxing Lifestyle

Detoxing is one of those words you hear everywhere—and if I’m being honest, it can start to feel a little… woo-woo.

Juices, cleanses, supplements, protocols—it’s a lot. And if you’re already juggling kids, schedules, and everything else on your plate, it can feel like just one more thing you’re supposed to be doing “right.”

But here’s the truth: your body is already designed to detox every single day. And your liver plays a huge role in that.

When your liver is supported, your body tends to function more smoothly. You may notice more stable energy, better digestion, clearer skin, and just an overall sense of feeling better.

When it’s overwhelmed, that’s when things can start to feel off — low energy, digestive issues, skin flare-ups, or inflammation.

So instead of thinking about detoxing as something extreme, think of it this way:

Detoxing is really about reducing what’s weighing your body down and supporting what helps it function well.

Not perfection. Not doing everything at once. Just small, supportive shifts.

How to Support Your Liver (Without Overcomplicating It)

Supporting your liver doesn’t have to be complicated.

At its core, it comes down to three things:

  1. Lowering your toxic load

  2. Nourishing your body with the nutrients it needs

  3. Supporting your natural detox pathways (like your lymphatic system)

You don’t need to do everything perfectly. Even a few small changes can make a meaningful difference over time.

Here are some simple ways to start -

Be mindful of daily exposures

Start by becoming a little more aware of what you’re exposed to each day, without trying to overhaul your entire life overnight.

Focus on areas like:

  • The food and drinks you consume

  • Personal care products

  • Cleaning supplies

  • Your water and air quality

  • What you cook with

These everyday exposures can add up over time. Start by switching them out one at a time or when you run out of what you currently have.

Add in supportive foods and drinks

Certain foods can help support your body’s natural detox processes.

  • Cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli and cauliflower)

  • Berries and citrus fruits

  • Garlic and turmeric

  • Herbal teas like dandelion, ginger, or peppermint

Even simple habits, like choosing whole foods more often, can go a long way.

Support your body through movement

Your body is designed to eliminate toxins, and sweating is one of the ways it does that.

This doesn’t have to be intense, just aim to move your body daily in a way that feels good to you.

That could look like:

  • Walking (Shoot for 10,000 steps a day)

  • Strength training (3x a week)

  • A workout class

  • Or even using a sauna if that’s accessible to you

Stay hydrated

Hydration is one of the simplest (and most overlooked) ways to support your body.

Water helps:

  • Transport nutrients

  • Regulate temperature

  • Flush out waste

Aim to drink enough throughout the day and consider adding minerals or electrolytes for extra support.

A water filter is one of the first things I would work on getting for the house. Not all filters are created the same; one like Clearly Filtered will filter out all the bad toxins you find in tap water.

Support digestion

Healthy digestion plays a key role in detoxification.

Simple habits like:

  • Drinking warm lemon water in the morning

  • Eating whole, nutrient-dense foods

  • Slowing down while eating

can help support this process in a gentle, sustainable way.

Support your lymphatic system

Your lymphatic system helps move waste out of the body, but unlike your heart, it doesn’t have its own pump, so we have to help it move.

You can support it through:

  • Movement

  • Dry brushing

  • Rebounding (light bouncing)

Even small daily habits can help keep things moving.

Optional deeper support

If you want to go deeper, there are additional tools that some people find helpful, like structured detox programs, sauna use, or targeted therapies.

These can be supportive, but they’re not where you need to start.

Start simple. Build from there.

A gentle reminder—

You don’t need to do all of this at once. In fact, you shouldn’t. Start with one small shift. Let that become part of your routine. Then build from there.

Supporting your liver and your body isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about consistency over time.
